Thrissur to host job fair enhancing skills for youth
Thrissur will host a large job fair on April 26, part of the Vijnana Keralam project. The fair aims to create job opportunities for educated youth by improving their skills to meet job market needs. Minister for Revenue K. Rajan announced this during a meeting of local leaders in Thrissur. Rajan emphasized the government’s commitment to reducing unemployment by offering skill training. He highlighted that many jobseekers have successfully become employers. Former Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac, an advisor on the project, explained that the Vijnana Keralam initiative would support candidates chosen by companies to receive necessary training. The primary goal of the project is to enhance employability for postgraduates, undergraduates, and diploma holders. It aims for nearly 100% job placements, with around 500,000 students expected to benefit from skill development programs. The maha panchayat brought together local representatives to turn local government into job centers. The Digital Workforce Management System (DWMS) portal will help jobseekers register, find job information, and access training. Many jobseekers, now numbering 153,000 in the district, will receive support for placement. To prepare jobseekers, 24 job stations and 94 facilitation centers are available. Virtual job drives are also being organized to target various graduate categories. English and soft skills training is provided by retired educators to boost confidence for interviews. The event was led by district panchayat president V.S. Prince.
