Thunder eyeing Khris Middleton for summer roster boost
The Oklahoma City Thunder have a talented young team and are aiming for an NBA championship this season. However, if they do not succeed, they might consider adding experienced players over the summer. General Manager Sam Presti is known for planning for the future, but there comes a time when he may need to make a move to win now. Presti is unlikely to search for another superstar, as that would mean giving up valuable young players or draft picks. Instead, he may look for a veteran player in their mid-30s who has experience winning championships. This player should ideally complement the current roster without dominating the ball or taking opportunities away from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. A strong candidate for this is Khris Middleton, a former NBA champion and three-time All-Star. Middleton, who was traded to the Washington Wizards, has a player option for next season. He might choose to stay with the Wizards or seek a longer-term contract elsewhere. Middleton turns 34 in August, and his playing style does not depend heavily on athleticism. If he joins the Thunder, he could benefit from the scoring opportunities created by Gilgeous-Alexander. However, Presti will need to act quickly, as the Golden State Warriors might also be interested in Middleton. The offseason will be crucial for the Thunder, especially if their playoff performance is not up to expectations.
