Tip increases golf swing speed through wrist cocking

golf.com

GOLF.com editor Zephyr Melton shared how he increased his swing speed with a simple tip. He typically drives the ball between 225 and 235 yards but is always looking to hit it farther. During a recent content shoot at a Top 100 Teacher Summit, Melton spoke with coach Bernie Najar. Najar suggested that the common advice to take the club back "low and slow" is not the best way to generate power. Instead, he recommended focusing on getting energy into the club. Najar noted that Melton was setting his wrists too late in his swing. He advised Melton to cock the club back earlier for a faster takeaway. To demonstrate this, Najar used a shaft to provide resistance as Melton practiced his swing. Najar explained that if the club goes back too low for too long, it can feel heavy and hard to control. He mentioned that getting the clubhead into the air more quickly helps create better swings and longer drives. After following Najar’s advice and practicing, Melton noticed a significant improvement in his swing speed. He encourages other golfers to try this tip for themselves.
