Tipra Motha urges focus on tribal issues in budget session
Agartala: Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, the leader of TIPRA Motha, has urged his party's MLAs to focus on tribal issues during the upcoming budget session of the assembly. This session begins on Friday. On Thursday, Debbarman met with all 13 MLAs, including two ministers, to discuss various topics important to the Tiprasa (tribal) communities. Debbarman emphasized the need to advocate for the rights of the Tiprasa people. He mentioned the importance of addressing socio-economic and cultural issues. "Even though we are part of the government, our priority is to our people," he said. He believes that the voters elected them to serve the community, not just to enjoy government benefits. TIPRA Motha formed an alliance with the BJP before last year's elections, but they have expressed disappointment with the BJP for not fulfilling promises made during the agreement. Debbarman pointed out a specific issue regarding the Kokborok language. Although the government had announced the use of both Bengali and Roman scripts for board exams, recent Madhyamik exams were only in Bengali. He raised this concern with Chief Minister Manik Saha, who is also the education minister. Debbarman was assured that there would be no problems for students in the higher secondary Kokborok exams. He urged the government to adopt the Roman script for the Kokborok language, as most people prefer it. Additionally, Debbarman discussed efforts to create job opportunities for youth. His party is working with the ADC administration to provide training for job seekers, particularly in Japan, to ensure they have solid income opportunities.
