The Tiruchi City Corporation organized a cleaning drive at Peacock Park on Saturday. More than 60 volunteers took part, including college students from service clubs and local residents. The event aimed to clean the park located near the Uyyakondan canal in Zone V. Corporation workers and sanitation supervisors joined the volunteers to help with the task. They successfully removed around 40 kg of waste, mainly dry leaves and plastic. The cleaning started at 7 a.m. Organizers hope this initiative will raise awareness about keeping public spaces clean. More parks will be included in future cleaning efforts. A Corporation official announced that similar drives will occur weekly in major parks, involving local educational institutions. Tiruchi has over 300 parks, with maintenance costs exceeding ₹2 lakh per park each year. However, many remain unkempt due to a lack of funds.
