Titans consider trading for quarterback Kirk Cousins
The Tennessee Titans had a disappointing 2024 NFL season, finishing with a record of 3-14. This poor performance gives them the first overall pick in the upcoming 2025 draft. While they have quarterbacks Will Levis and Brandon Allen, they are in a strong position to select a top college quarterback like Cam Ward from Miami or Shedeur Sanders from Colorado. There is speculation that the Titans may instead consider trading for an experienced quarterback. Veteran Kirk Cousins has been mentioned as a potential target. At 36 years old, Cousins has a long history in the NFL. He was selected by Washington in the 2012 draft and later signed a big contract with the Minnesota Vikings. Cousins' most recent deal was a four-year, $180 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons. During the 2024 season, he started 14 games, leading the Falcons to a 7-7 record while throwing for 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns, and a league-high 16 interceptions. His performance rated him 29th out of 75 qualified quarterbacks by Pro Football Focus. The Falcons might not want to trade him yet due to the financial implications. If they trade Cousins before June 1, they would incur a $37.5 million dead cap charge. However, this amount drops to $12.5 million after that date. If Cousins seeks a better situation, he could push for a move to Tennessee, where he might become a starting quarterback.
