TNAU signs agreement to supply seeds nationwide
The Seed Centre of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has increased its production significantly since it started in 2006. It has now partnered with the National Seeds Corporation (NSC) in New Delhi. This agreement will allow TNAU to supply various agricultural products. TNAU will provide seeds, saplings, and several other inputs. These include seed coating formulations, biofertilisers, biopesticides, micronutrients, and crop boosters. The aim is to improve the availability of quality agricultural inputs for farmers across India. Vice-Chancellor V. Geethalakshmi mentioned this during the signing of the agreement. The agreement was formalized at the 11th Annual Seed Workshop. Officials present included J. Selvendran from NSC and R. Umarani, Director of the Seed Centre. Also attending was R. Ravikesavan, Director of the Centre for Plant Breeding and Genetics at TNAU. In addition, eighty scientists at TNAU have completed their plans for seed production for the upcoming 2025-26 year. They have developed a web portal that provides real-time information on where seeds for various crops can be found.
