Tokyo expects snowfall as storm hits Japan

A strong storm is currently impacting Japan, bringing heavy snow and strong winds to many areas. The snow is reaching from the northern parts to the west of the country. Central Tokyo is expected to see about 1 centimeter of snow by Thursday morning. This storm is unusually intense for this time of year. The low-pressure system is located about 5,500 meters high, with temperatures dropping below minus 33 degrees Celsius. It is moving eastward near the Izu Islands and has already caused gusty winds, reaching up to 88 kilometers per hour on Hachijo Island. The cold air is causing significant snowfall in the mountainous regions of Kanto-Koshin and Chugoku. Snowfall amounts have been high, with 26 centimeters reported in Kusatsu, Gunma Prefecture. Other areas have also seen heavy snow, including 18 centimeters in Karuizawa, 12 centimeters in Fujikawaguchiko, and 10 centimeters in both Nagano city and Nasu Kogen.
