Tom Cruise's endorsement helped Boyega land Star Wars role

John Boyega revealed that Tom Cruise played a key role in his casting for Star Wars. During a panel at Emerald City Comic Con, Boyega explained that Cruise recommended him to director J.J. Abrams after seeing his performance in "Attack the Block." Boyega starred in "Attack the Block," which was released in 2011. The film features a group of teenagers in South London facing an alien invasion. Cruise's endorsement helped Boyega land the role of Finn in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Despite his success in the Star Wars trilogy and other films, there is no confirmation on Boyega's return to the franchise. Tom Cruise will next appear in "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning," set to release on May 23, 2025.
