Tom Moody criticizes PBKS auction strategy after Shreyas Iyer's record bid

Punjab Kings (PBKS) made headlines at the IPL 2025 auction by acquiring Shreyas Iyer for ₹ 26.75 crore, briefly making him the most expensive player in IPL history. This record was soon surpassed by Rishabh Pant, who was bought for ₹ 27 crore. Former coach Tom Moody criticized PBKS's auction strategy, suggesting it was poorly planned. He noted that the team quickly spent a large portion of their budget, leaving them with ₹ 65.75 crore remaining from an initial ₹ 110.5 crore. PBKS also used the Right to Match option to bring back pacer Arshdeep Singh for ₹ 18 crore. Iyer is expected to captain the team in the upcoming season after leading Kolkata Knight Riders to their IPL title in 2024.
