Tornado warnings issued for Stanislaus, Tuolumne counties

A severe thunderstorm that could produce a tornado was reported near Turlock, California, on Monday. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued multiple tornado warnings for parts of Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties. The storm was located about nine miles northeast of Delhi and 11 miles east of Turlock. The NWS indicated that the storm would affect rural areas in western Mariposa, southwestern Tuolumne, and north-central Merced counties until at least 5:45 p.m. Residents were advised to seek shelter immediately. The warnings were first reported at around 4:48 p.m. The NWS warned that the storm could cause significant damage, particularly to mobile homes, roofs, and vehicles. People in the affected areas were encouraged to move to a basement or a sturdy interior room and to avoid windows for safety.
