Tornadoes strike Houston area, causing one death and widespread damage
Multiple tornadoes struck the Houston area on Saturday, resulting in one death and four injuries in Brazoria County. At least six tornadoes were confirmed, with damage assessments ongoing. Earlier tornado activity was reported in Wharton and Harris counties. The severe weather has disrupted travel, affecting over 1,000 flights at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and hundreds more at Houston's airports. Power outages impacted more than 45,000 customers in Texas and 21,000 in Louisiana. Governor Greg Abbott activated emergency management resources in response to the storms. Damage included destroyed homes and a fire station in Brazoria County, with additional reports of downed trees and power lines across the region.
