Toronto man charged with murder has violent criminal history

A 31-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a homeless man in Toronto. The suspect, Adimabua Chukwuka, has a history of violent crimes, including attempted murder and assault. Toronto police arrested Chukwuka on Friday afternoon. This came just hours after 60-year-old Mario Ferreira was found dead near the University of Toronto campus. Investigators have video footage reportedly showing Chukwuka attacking Ferreira with debris while he lay on a bench early Thursday morning. Chukwuka has faced multiple charges in the past. In 2014, he was charged with over ten offenses related to stabbings, including attempted murder and aggravated assault. More recently, in April 2022, he was charged again after two incidents involving a knife and a robbery. The outcomes of these previous charges are not clear at this time.
