Torrent Group acquires 67% of Gujarat Titans franchise
Torrent Group has acquired a 67% stake in the Gujarat Titans, a team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has approved the deal, allowing it to move forward. The agreement between Torrent and Irelia Company was signed on February 12, 2025. It was subject to standard closing conditions and necessary approvals, all of which have now been met. As a result, Torrent now holds the majority stake, while Irelia retains a 33% minority stake in the franchise. Gujarat Titans is a relatively new team in the IPL. It is led by captain Shubman Gill and coached by Ashish Nehra. The team won the IPL title in its first season and finished as runners-up the next season. This acquisition aligns with Torrent's strategy to diversify its business interests and support sports in India. Torrent Group is well-known in sectors like healthcare and energy. The company has revenues over Rs 41,000 crore and a market capitalization of Rs 2 lakh crore. It employs more than 25,000 people in India and abroad.
