Tourist encounters nurse sharks while snorkeling in Maldives
A woman had a surprising experience while snorkeling in the Maldives. Sindy Claire Bondoc found herself surrounded by a group of nurse sharks. The incident caught on video shows the sharks swimming close to her as she explored the clear waters. Bondoc was wearing a snorkeling mask and a pink bikini when the encounter happened. She described the sharks as looking "terrifying" with their sharp teeth. However, she noted that they ignored her during the incident. Local fishermen had been feeding the sharks, which likely made them more active at that time. According to experts, nurse sharks are generally not aggressive and tend to be slow swimmers. They usually spend most of their time resting at the bottom of the ocean. Bondoc mentioned that local guides had given her safety tips on what to do if she encountered sharks. They advised her to keep her hands close to her body to avoid any misunderstandings with the sharks. Nurse sharks have small mouths and teeth that help them suction in their prey. They are nocturnal and are commonly found in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Despite the initial fear, Bondoc's experience highlights the unique interactions that can occur in marine environments.
