Toxic foam found in Pune's Mula River
Environment activists and local residents are worried about pollution in the Mula River. On Wednesday, a white layer of toxic foam was spotted near Vishalnagar in Pimple Nilakh. These foam incidents are more common in the Indrayani and Pavana rivers, making this situation unusual for the Mula River. The foam was seen close to where the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is working on a river rejuvenation project. Raviraj Kale, a local resident and Aam Aadmi Party member, said that the foam might be caused by domestic waste from broken sewer systems. He also suspects that chemicals might be contributing to the problem. Raju Sawale, an environmental activist, noted that similar foam has appeared before, but usually only in limited areas of the river. Municipal officials stated that their sewage treatment plants are working. They believe the waste entering the river may be from outside the Pimpri Chinchwad area. Sanjay Kulkarni, the city engineer and head of the PCMC's environment department, confirmed that officials have been sent to collect water samples. He assured that they will take the necessary actions to address the issue.
