Traders urge Collector to reopen Tirunelveli market
Traders at Netaji Bose Daily Market in Tirunelveli Town have asked Collector R. Sukumar to help reopen the market soon. On Monday, a group of traders submitted a petition outlining their concerns. They explained that the market, which was rebuilt under the 'Smart City Mission' with funds of ₹10.97 crore, still cannot operate due to a lack of necessary facilities. The traders also mentioned that 25 of them lost their shop allocations because they did not pay their deposits on time after winning the auction. As a result, they lost 20% of their deposit money. They requested that the authorities ban the sale of vegetables within a 1 km radius of Netaji Bose Market to ensure better business. Additionally, members of the Thamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam group submitted petitions for various issues in the community. One petition asked for the desilting of a well in Valluvar Street to supply water for a local sanitary complex. Another petition, from a women's group, requested a reliable drinking water supply for Beedi Colony in Melapalayam. In a separate request, women from Karuppukatti village asked for regular drinking water access, as their village of 300 families has not received any water for 28 days. In other news, Dr. Sukumar provided assistance worth ₹19.09 lakh to nine differently-abled persons. This included retrofitted scooters and funds for three individuals to start readymade garment businesses. He also offered financial support to the family of a man who drowned in the Tamirabharani River.
