Travis Hunter aims to prove versatility before draft
Travis Hunter has reacted to Travis Kelce's remarks about proving his ability to play both offense and defense in the NFL. Hunter, a standout player for the Colorado Buffaloes, won the Heisman Trophy last year for his versatility on the field. At just 21 years old, Hunter is expected to be one of the top picks in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, Kelce warned him that his ability to excel in both positions will need to be demonstrated. Hunter responded confidently, acknowledging that he has to show what he can do. He said, "I have to prove that I can do it... and I can do it." Historically, no player has played on both offense and defense full-time in the NFL since Chuck Bednarik from 1949 to 1962. Many analysts believe Hunter may need to focus on one position to succeed at the professional level. Kelce pointed out that while it's possible for Hunter to play both roles, there are challenges. Kelce noted that playcalling would need to consider Hunter's stamina, as playing both sides every down could lead to exhaustion. He suggested that it might be more effective for Hunter to play primarily as a defensive player while participating in offensive plays as needed. Hunter's coach, Deion Sanders, supports the idea of him playing both roles in the NFL. He believes that any team interested in drafting Hunter should be ready to make a plan that allows him to do so.
