Trial for Beaverton nurse's murder postponed to 2026
The trial for Bryce Schubert, accused of killing nurse Melissa Jubane, has been delayed until 2026. Schubert, 28, faces charges of second-degree murder and abuse of a corpse. Jubane, 32, was found dead three days after failing to appear for work on September 4, 2024. She had been newly married just ten days prior. Prosecutors have not revealed a motive for the killing. Schubert had a nursing background, and both his girlfriend and Jubane worked at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. In a recent court motion, Schubert's lawyers described the investigation as “ongoing and very active.” They mentioned the need to review a large amount of evidence and the necessity of retaining expert witnesses. Defense attorney Greg Scholl wrote that the time remaining before the trial was not enough to complete the work needed. He also mentioned another murder trial he is preparing for in Coos County. The prosecution opposed the delay, but Judge Rebecca Guptill approved it during a hearing on March 10. The trial date has been moved from September 9 to March 31, 2026. It is common for murder cases to be rescheduled multiple times due to various circumstances.
