Trinamool MLA Humayun Kabir vows to follow party rules

Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir stated on March 19, 2025, that he will follow the rules of his party after meeting with its disciplinary committee. This meeting came after Kabir made controversial comments in response to a statement by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. Adhikari had said that if the BJP gains power in West Bengal, they would remove Trinamool's Muslim MLAs from the Assembly. In reaction, Kabir threatened Adhikari with serious consequences and defended the Muslim community. He expressed discontent with personal attacks and challenged Adhikari to take back his remarks. Following these events, the Trinamool Congress summoned Kabir to discuss his remarks. He acknowledged the meeting and the advice given by the committee, saying it was a positive discussion. Kabir promised to remain disciplined and to keep the party leadership informed of any future issues. State minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, who is part of the disciplinary committee, emphasized that Kabir's comments should not be made in public. He reiterated that Kabir agreed to adhere to party discipline moving forward. The committee consists of several senior MLAs, including Chattopadhyay and others.
