Trinity advances to Division III championship game

The Trinity men's basketball team won a tough semifinal match against Wesleyan, 73-69, on Thursday night. This victory, held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana, sends Trinity to the Division III national championship game on Saturday. Trinity faced Wesleyan for the third time this season. With a record of 29-3, Trinity was the only team to defeat Wesleyan, who is 30-2, earlier this year. They had previously beaten them in an earlier championship game but lost in their regular-season matchup. The game was intense from the start. At halftime, Trinity led by just two points, 33-31. In the second half, they built a more comfortable lead, going ahead 63-50. However, Wesleyan fought back with a 14-4 run, narrowing the score to 67-64. In the final moments, both teams exchanged points, but Wesleyan could not close the gap further than 72-69. Trinity's Drew Lazarre sealed the win by making one of two free throws with just four seconds left. Top scorers for Trinity included Henry Vetter and Jarrel Okorougo, who each scored 15 points. Nicky Johnson led Wesleyan with 19 points. Trinity will face either New York University or Washington University in the championship on Saturday at 4 p.m.
