A tropical depression named Kristine has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility, prompting the weather bureau to raise Signal No. 1 over Catanduanes and parts of the Visayas. Winds of 39 to 61 km/h are expected in these areas. Kristine, located 1,050 km east of Southeastern Luzon, has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h and is moving west southwest at 30 km/h. Gale-force gusts are anticipated in several regions, including Palawan and Northern Mindanao, over the next few days. Heavy rainfall is forecasted, with 50 to 200 mm expected in various regions, raising the risk of flooding and landslides. Kristine is projected to intensify into a tropical storm and make landfall in Northern Luzon by Friday.
