Tropical storm expected to form and move into Gulf of Mexico as hurricane
A new storm, Potential Tropical Cyclone No. 18, is expected to develop into a tropical storm and possibly a hurricane as it moves from the Caribbean Sea into the Gulf of Mexico. It is currently located 220 miles south of Jamaica. Hurricane warnings have been issued for the Cayman Islands, with the storm anticipated to reach the western tip of Cuba by Thursday. It may enter the Gulf of Mexico later this week. While Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama are within the forecast area, it is too early to predict the storm's impact on the U.S. The hurricane season lasts until the end of November, with the next named storm being Rafael.
