Tropical storm expected to strengthen into hurricane and likely hit Cuba
A new tropical storm is expected to form in the Caribbean, bringing heavy rain to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. Forecasters predict it will strengthen into a hurricane and likely hit Cuba later this week. Currently named "Potential Tropical Cyclone Eighteen," the storm is located about 220 miles south of Kingston, Jamaica. It has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph and is moving north at 7 mph. The storm could reach hurricane strength as it approaches the Cayman Islands and is forecasted to pass over western Cuba on Wednesday. Heavy rainfall of 3 to 9 inches is expected, raising concerns for flooding and mudslides.
