Truckee businesses benefit from late-season snowfall boost
Truckee businesses are experiencing an increase in visitors and sales thanks to recent late-season snowfall. This snow, part of what locals call "Miracle March," has come as a relief after a slow and dry winter. Many shops in downtown Truckee had been struggling due to dry conditions and fewer visitors. "You start to look into February, and it dips down a bit," said Denisse Briseño Santana, who owns a sweets shop in the area. She noted that without snowfall, fewer people come to ski resorts or visit the town. Visitor Karey Dodge confirmed the uplift in activity. "Since we've got a lot more snow, I think it’s a little busier," she said. The new snow has brought families out to enjoy winter activities. Santana observed that it's nice to see people back in town, enjoying the snow. At the Tourist Club, bartender Ryan Callahan mentioned that local customers have been the backbone of their business during this tough winter. He noted that while the dry conditions were disappointing, the recent snow has brought some visitors back. "If we would have gotten this back in January, it would have been better," Callahan said, acknowledging that the season is almost over. Despite the late snow, Callahan and other businesses are grateful for the boost but are also ready for spring. "Winter sucks, let's just move on to summertime," he added. Dreaming of warmer days, Truckee locals are making the best of the snow while they can.
