Trudeau clarifies Canada-U.S. border differences in talks with Trump
Canada's ambassador to the U.S. stated that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau successfully conveyed to President-elect Donald Trump that Canada should not be grouped with Mexico regarding drug and migrant flows. This discussion occurred during a dinner meeting. Trudeau emphasized the significant differences between the Canada-U.S. border and the Mexico-U.S. border. The ambassador noted that nearly all fentanyl seized in the U.S. comes from Mexico, while Canada has minimal trafficking issues. The dinner also addressed trade, with Canada having a $75 billion trade deficit with the U.S. last year. Despite productive talks, Trump maintained his stance on potential tariffs against Canada and Mexico.
