Trudeau's Liberal Party to choose new leader on March 9
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party will select a new leader on March 9, 2025. Trudeau will remain in his position until then, following his announcement to step down amid poor polling results for the party. The Liberal Party's National Board met to establish rules for the leadership race, with a candidate entry fee set at C$350,000. The deadline to register as a Liberal and vote in the leadership election is January 27. Former finance minister Chrystia Freeland and former central banker Mark Carney are expected to run for leadership. Trudeau's government will remain in place until at least March 24, when parliament is set to resume.
