President Donald Trump has announced plans to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement, a move similar to his 2017 decision that was reversed by President Joe Biden in 2021. The U.S. will officially exit the pact in one year. The White House declared a "national energy emergency" to reverse climate regulations and increase oil and gas production. Trump emphasized a focus on fossil fuels, stating, "We will drill, baby, drill," and plans to cancel Biden's climate policies. The U.S. will join Iran, Yemen, and Libya as the only countries outside the agreement. This withdrawal comes amid rising global temperatures, which surpassed 1.5C above pre-industrial levels for the first time in 2024.
