Trump appoints D. John Sauer as US solicitor general
D. John Sauer has been appointed by President-elect Donald Trump as the U.S. solicitor general. Sauer previously served as Missouri's solicitor general from 2017 to 2022 and was lead counsel in Trump's Supreme Court case on presidential immunity. Sauer has a background in law, including roles as an assistant U.S. attorney and in private practice. He was also a significant donor against a recent Missouri abortion amendment. His appointment follows a Supreme Court ruling that benefited Trump’s legal challenges. Trump praised Sauer's qualifications, highlighting his education and experience, including clerking for Justice Antonin Scalia. Sauer's past legal battles included cases involving Planned Parenthood and Medicaid expansion.
