Trump appoints Scott Bessent as Treasury Secretary to advance economic agenda
President-elect Donald Trump has appointed hedge fund manager Scott Bessent as Treasury Secretary. Bessent, CEO of Key Square Group, will focus on implementing Trump's economic agenda, including tax cuts and tariffs. Bessent has previously advised Trump and supports extending tax cuts from the first term. He aims to address the budget deficit and promote American energy dominance. In addition to Bessent, Trump announced several other key nominations, including Russell Vought for the Office of Management and Budget and Janette Nesheiwat as Surgeon General. All nominees require Senate confirmation.
