Trump attorney's husband sues jeweler for fraud
Alina Habba, a lawyer for Donald Trump, and her husband Gregg Reuben are involved in a legal dispute over a diamond engagement ring. Reuben claims he was overcharged by $78,000 for the ring, which he bought for $93,000 in 2020. He says the ring is actually worth only $15,000. Reuben is suing a jeweler in Manhattan called Allurez. He accuses them of fraud, unjust enrichment, and false advertising. He wants his money back, plus $500,000 in damages. The lawsuit states that the documentation provided for the ring, which came from EGL Canada, is not reliable. Reuben claims that EGL Canada often overstates the value of diamonds. According to a valuation he got from GIA, a respected diamond grading company, the ring's actual worth is just $15,240. Reuben argues that if he had known the true value of the ring, he would never have purchased it. Allurez’s lawyers have responded that Reuben’s claims are exaggerated and have requested the case be dismissed. Despite the legal issues regarding the ring, Alina Habba continues to rise in prominence. Recently, she was appointed as New Jersey's interim US Attorney. She is known for her work with Trump and has been involved in various legal matters for him.
