Trump builds winning coalition in 2024 election with key voter shifts
Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election by maintaining his core support among white, older, and non-college-educated voters while gaining ground with younger voters and Black and Hispanic men. This shift helped him build a broader coalition compared to 2020. Trump's share of the youth vote increased significantly, with nearly half of voters aged 18 to 29 supporting him, up from 36% in 2020. He also strengthened his appeal among non-college-educated voters, winning 55% of this group, a notable rise from the previous election. While Trump’s coalition remained predominantly white, he made small gains among Black and Latino voters. Support for Harris among Black voters decreased slightly, and she lost ground with young Latino men. Harris maintained strong support among college-educated voters but could not offset Trump's gains among non-college-educated voters.
