Trump cuts off Collins over classified breach inquiry
During a news briefing on Tuesday, President Donald Trump interrupted CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins as she tried to ask about a classified security breach. Collins began to speak about Trump's National Security Advisor learning a lesson but Trump cut her off, saying, "Excuse me, I didn't pick you." He then moved on to another reporter. The issue at hand involves high-ranking officials in Trump's administration, including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz. They allegedly leaked sensitive military strategies regarding Yemen to journalist Jeffrey Goldberg in a private chat. This revelation has raised many questions about the incident. The administration's response has been unclear and confusing. Trump told another reporter that Waltz had "learned his lesson" about handling classified information. However, both Hegseth and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt denied the leak and claimed it was a fabrication by Goldberg. Trump even suggested, without evidence, that Goldberg may have hacked the group chat. During a Senate intelligence hearing on the same day, Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence, stated that the leaked information was not classified. She could not explain why it could not be shared with the public. Both Gabbard and CIA Director John Ratcliffe admitted they were unsure about the Pentagon's rules on classified information.
