Trump demands policy changes at Columbia University
The Trump administration is demanding Columbia University change its disciplinary policies and admissions to restore $400 million in federal funding. This follows criticism of the university's response to pro-Palestinian protests and accusations of failing to combat antisemitism. The government has set a March 20 deadline for Columbia to respond to its letter, which outlines specific demands. These include defining antisemitism, banning masks that conceal identities, and placing certain academic departments under oversight for five years. Columbia recently announced disciplinary actions against students involved in a campus building occupation during protests, with sanctions including suspensions and expulsions. One expelled student was the president of the student workers union.
