Trump dismisses NBC News reporter as "discredited."
President Trump recently refused to take a question from an NBC News reporter during a visit to the Kennedy Center. He criticized the network, calling it “discredited” and stating he no longer wanted to engage with them. This incident occurred as Trump answered questions from other journalists. When the NBC reporter identified themselves, Trump waved his hand and dismissed them. Trump's negative feelings toward NBC News, which is owned by Comcast, have existed for years. He previously threatened to sue Comcast over what he called unfair coverage during his presidential campaign in 2023. During his visit, Trump announced he would release 80,000 pages of documents related to JFK on Tuesday. He said people have been waiting for this information for decades and that he did not intend to redact any parts of the files. Trump's actions against the media have included signing an executive order that weakens the federal agency overseeing Voice of America. His administration accused the outlet of having a leftist bias. The White House recently barred Associated Press reporters from press events after they continued to use the term "Gulf of Mexico," ignoring Trump's request to rename it. Additionally, Trump and his allies have called for cuts to public broadcasting networks like NPR and PBS. This has led PBS to make budget cuts, including closing its diversity office due to reliance on federal funding. NPR and PBS have reported that only a small portion of their funding comes from the government, but they face ongoing scrutiny under the current administration.
