Trump expands voter coalition by gaining support from key demographic groups in 2024 election
Donald Trump won the presidency by maintaining strong support from his core base and gaining some support from traditionally Democratic groups, according to the AP VoteCast survey of over 120,000 voters. He increased his share of Black and Hispanic voters, particularly among younger Black men. About 81% of Trump voters were white, consistent with 2020. Trump secured a majority of white voters, while Kamala Harris received about 40%. Harris's support among Black voters fell slightly, with 80% backing her, down from 90% for Biden in 2020. Harris won just over half of Hispanic voters, a decrease from Biden's 60%. Trump made modest gains among both men and women, with his support among women narrowing compared to Biden's. Overall, shifts were most notable among younger voters and minority groups.
