Trump nominates Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Secretary of Labor

President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Lori Chavez-DeRemer, a Republican representative from Oregon, as the new Secretary of Labor. Chavez-DeRemer, who lost her congressional seat earlier this month, was elected to the House in 2022. Chavez-DeRemer has a background in public service, having served on the Happy Valley City Council and as its first female and Latina mayor. She holds a degree in business administration from California State University, Fresno. Her nomination is not expected to impact the Republican majority in the Senate. Trump highlighted her support from both business and labor communities in his announcement.
