Trump nominates Lori Chavez-DeRemer to lead Labor Department
President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Republican U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer to lead the Labor Department. Chavez-DeRemer, who recently lost her reelection bid, received strong support from union members in her Oregon district. As Labor Secretary, she would manage the department's workforce and budget, focusing on workers' wages, health, safety, and union rights. Trump highlighted her backing from both business and labor communities. Trump also announced Scott Bessent as his nominee for treasury secretary and Russel Vought for the Office of Management and Budget. Bessent, a former money manager for George Soros, would be the first openly gay treasury secretary if confirmed.
