Trump nominates Scott Bessent as treasury secretary and Russell Vought for budget office
President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Scott Bessent, a hedge fund manager, as his treasury secretary. Bessent supports deficit reduction and could gain bipartisan backing. Trump also announced Russell Vought's return as head of the Office of Management and Budget. Trump's health team includes Dr. Janette Nesheiwat as surgeon general, Dr. Dave Weldon for the CDC, and Dr. Marty Makary for the FDA. He previously named Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as health secretary. Other appointments include Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer as labor secretary. Bessent, if confirmed, would be the first openly gay treasury secretary. He has a history with George Soros and has advocated for reducing the national debt. Vought's budget proposals include significant spending cuts across various government departments.
