Trump prepares list of conservative Supreme Court nominees
Former President Donald Trump is planning to reshape the federal judiciary, specifically the Supreme Court. He aims to nominate more conservative judges who align with his views and strengthen his judicial legacy. Legal allies close to Trump are helping to identify candidates for these positions. Mike Davis, a key supporter and founder of the Article III Project, has already shared potential nominees with the White House. He recently mentioned Judge Aileen Cannon as an "ideal" choice for the Supreme Court but did not disclose other names. During his first term, Trump appointed three justices: Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett. He may get the chance to make more appointments in the next few years if current justices like Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito retire. There are about 45 federal court vacancies available, including a key position on the 9th Circuit. Several judges are being considered for these openings. Notable possibles include Kathryn Kimball Mizelle, James Ho, Neomi Rao, and Patrick Bumatay. Carrie Severino from the Judicial Crisis Network emphasized the need for strong judges who can withstand political pressure. Trump is expected to announce his first nominees soon, possibly as a group rather than individually. This move aims to showcase his determination to establish a long-lasting conservative influence on the judiciary.
