Trump proposes changes to Social Security Administration operations
Since taking office, President Trump has made several changes to the Social Security Administration (SSA). He appointed Lee Dudek as acting commissioner and plans to implement the Social Security Fairness Act, which will increase benefits for over 3.2 million individuals. The SSA has reduced its staffing target and identified cost-saving measures, aiming to save over $800 million in fiscal 2025. However, Trump has also directed the closure of around 7,500 federal offices, raising concerns about service accessibility. Trump has reiterated that his administration will not cut Social Security benefits and has called for no taxes on these benefits. He aims to lower inflation, which could affect cost-of-living adjustments for beneficiaries.
