Trump renews calls to buy Greenland and suggests U.S. control of Panama Canal
Donald Trump has renewed his calls to buy Greenland from Denmark, a proposal he first made in 2019. He claims U.S. control of Greenland is essential for national security. Greenland's leader has rejected the idea, stating, "We are not for sale." In addition to Greenland, Trump has suggested that the U.S. could retake control of the Panama Canal, citing rising shipping costs. Panama's president firmly stated that the canal belongs to Panama, while Trump responded defiantly on social media. Trump has also proposed that Canada should become the 51st U.S. state, referring to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as "governor." Trudeau has indicated that Trump was joking about the annexation.
