Trump signs order to withdraw US from World Health Organization over funding concerns
President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO). He criticized the organization for its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and alleged political influence from member states. Trump stated that the U.S. makes disproportionate financial contributions compared to other countries, like China. The U.S. currently provides about 18% of the WHO's funding, which totals $6.8 billion for 2024-2025. This decision follows Trump's earlier attempts to exit the WHO during his first term, citing concerns over the organization's response to the pandemic and its relationship with China. The withdrawal will take effect within 12 months.
