Trump to exclude sector-specific tariffs on April 2
The Trump administration is reportedly planning to exclude specific tariffs on certain sectors when it introduces reciprocal tariffs on April 2. This information comes from reports by Bloomberg News and the Wall Street Journal, citing sources within the administration. In February, President Trump indicated plans to impose tariffs of around 25 percent on autos, semiconductors, and pharmaceutical imports. However, he later postponed some auto tariffs after discussions with the three largest U.S. automakers. According to the Wall Street Journal, sector-specific tariffs are now not expected to be announced on April 2. An official mentioned that while these specific tariffs may be excluded, the administration intends to introduce reciprocal tariff measures on that date. Despite earlier statements from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggesting a possible delay, the White House confirmed that new reciprocal tariff rates will still be implemented on April 2. There was no response from the White House outside of regular business hours regarding these plans.
