Trump warns BRICS nations of 100% tariffs over dollar alternatives
President-elect Donald Trump has warned BRICS countries against attempts to replace the US dollar. He stated that if they pursue a new currency or support alternatives, they could face 100% tariffs on exports to the U.S. BRICS, which includes India, Russia, China, and Brazil, is exploring a common currency. This follows discussions at the 2023 summit in South Africa, where Brazil's president proposed the idea. India has expressed opposition to de-dollarization. India's External Affairs Minister clarified that the country does not aim to undermine the dollar. He noted that while India seeks to facilitate trade with partners lacking dollars, it does not have a malicious intent toward the U.S. currency.
