Trump's approval rating at 46% two months in
Donald Trump’s approval ratings have been released, two months after he began his second term. The numbers show how people are reacting to his performance as president. Since taking office on January 20, Trump has quickly implemented key policies. He imposed a 25% tariff on goods from Canada, Mexico, China, and the European Union. He also used a historic law to carry out mass deportations. Additionally, his new Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, has cut government departments and welfare programs to reduce spending. Trump's recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the war with Russia received significant attention. His current approval rating is 46%, according to Gallup. While this is below the historical average of 52% for U.S. presidents, it is better than his first term, which averaged 41%. In comparison, his approval rating was lower at 39% in 2017. Other recent presidents had higher ratings during their second terms. Joe Biden had 54%, Barack Obama 64%, and George Bush 59%. John F. Kennedy had the highest early rating at 72% in February 1961. Political analysts suggest approval ratings often decline after the initial "honeymoon period" of a presidency. Costas Panagopoulos, a political science expert, stated that some supporters may be feeling uncertain as they see Trump’s policies in action. Despite these concerns, Trump still enjoys strong support among Republicans. The lack of a clear alternative means voters are not likely to shift their support widely. Democrats are still working to find a unified leader or strategy, which contributes to Trump's current approval ratings among his party supporters.
