Trump's influence secures GOP funding bill passage
Republicans passed a government funding bill by a narrow margin of 217-213, just days before a potential shutdown. The bill, supported by Donald Trump, continues funding levels set in December and will last until September 30. Trump's influence helped sway lawmakers who were initially hesitant to back the plan. Despite some opposition, including from Rep. Thomas Massie, most Republicans ultimately supported the measure after Trump made calls to encourage them. The bill includes slight increases for military funding but overall reduces spending compared to previous levels. It now moves to the Senate, where it requires Democratic support to pass before the funding deadline.
