Trump's tariffs threaten Boeing and aerospace exports
President Trump's tariffs could harm Boeing and the whole aerospace industry. Aerospace companies export a lot but depend on a global supply chain, which makes them vulnerable to added costs. Boeing is a major exporter, and Trump has promised to protect such manufacturers. However, his tariffs on materials like aluminum and steel may actually raise production costs for Boeing's suppliers. This situation worries the aerospace sector, which is already facing uncertainty with more tariffs set to take effect on goods from Canada and Mexico next month. Experts warn that these tariffs could disrupt the integrated North American supply chain. Bruce Hirsh, a trade policy expert, noted that the aerospace industry has enjoyed duty-free status for many years. He emphasized that parts used in manufacturing come from various places around the world. The aerospace industry is a key part of U.S. manufacturing. It provides high-paying jobs and has generated significant trade surpluses for a long time. This year, exports from the sector could reach about $125 billion, second only to the oil and gas industry.
