Tuduray-Lambangian tribe leader killed in Maguindanao del Sur

A leader of the Teduray-Lambangian tribe, Baywan Angan, was killed in Maguindanao del Sur on Sunday. This incident adds to the ongoing violence against non-Moro indigenous people in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, with Angan being the 85th victim since 2018. Angan was shot while fishing with his family. Witnesses reported that he was approached by three armed men who later shot him. The police have not identified the gunmen, but local leaders believe they are linked to an Islamic State-inspired group. Community leader Leticio Datuwata expressed frustration over the lack of government action to address these killings. He noted that the violence has continued despite the establishment of the Bangsamoro region, which was expected to improve safety for indigenous people.
