Two-alarm fire destroys Spring Valley McDonald's restaurant
A two-alarm fire destroyed a McDonald's restaurant in Spring Valley early Tuesday morning. Firefighters received a call about the fire shortly before 3 a.m. at the location on Jamacha Boulevard. The fire may have started in the basement and spread before anyone noticed. San Miguel Fire-Rescue's Battalion Chief Brian Lieberman said the cause is still under investigation, but it is not considered suspicious. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke inside the building and heat in the walls. As they searched for the source, flames reached the attic. Firefighters reported seeing big flames from the roof, and they decided to focus on controlling the fire from a safe distance with ladder trucks. Lieberman mentioned that the situation escalated quickly, and it was too dangerous to keep firefighters inside. There were no injuries reported as the restaurant was closed at the time. The damage is estimated at around $3 million. Firefighters remained on-site hours later to watch for any potential flare-ups.
